why

In Nova scotia, you are never more than 67km away from the ocean, hence the name Mostly The Coast. The inspiration for this photo-exploration is anchored in South Shore, Nova Scotia. The photos and stories I post are rural-centric slices of life. I also feature places such as Halifax, The Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton and Cumberland County which also happen to be the places where most of my friends and family live.

My main goal here is to document, illuminate, and collect pieces of the East Coast and present them to you here on the blog. My secondary goal for this site is to keep a portfolio of my best work - sort of like my own little online photo gallery.

I wanted to learn photography and started photo-blogging as a way to hold myself accountable by updating it on a semi-daily basis and putting my photos out into the world.

Photography has connected me with the landscape and architecture of the East Coast but it has also connected me with some really interesting people along the way. All the best stories end up right here on the blog.

About

I'm based in Bridgewater on the gorgeous South Shore of Nova Scotia. I live in one of the most beautiful provinces in the country and being perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean is the source of a lot of my work.

I'm a self-taught photographer and over the years I have learned a lot from simply keeping a regularly updated photo blog and seeking out other photographers and artists to learn from along the way. I've been part of exhibitions at Viewpoint Gallery, sold fine art prints of my work at the Halifax Crafters market and work with local businesses to provide them with beautiful eye-candy for their websites and social-media efforts.

Email about anything else you'd like to know.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions & answers can be found below. If you have another question, don't hesitate to contact me!

Q: Are you available for hire?

A: Yes - and if you just send me an email via my contact form with your photo needs, I'll get right back to you. I am looking to work with more small businesses in the area to give their marketing/social media campaigns the photos they need to stand out online.

Q: Can I use some of your photos in this project I'm working on?

A: If you are using it for a commercial purpose, I usually charge a royalty-free license fee for a full-res image. This fee depends on a couple different factors so email me to find out more.

If you are not using it for a commercial purpose, ie; personal blog-post, charity promotion, not-for-profit organization etc... I will hook you up at no charge.  But ask that you credit me as the creator of the work as outlined in this creative commons license.

Q: What's this 'Royalty Free' License charge all about?

A: For Example: If your company has a website and you want to use a photo of mine, I charge you a one-time fee and you have the right to use the photo as much as you like within the context of our usage agreement. I however will always retain copyright of the image.
