NYC B&W

First impressions of New York City

This is an account of my first visit to New York City. As a photographer, visiting a new city (let alone NYC) can be a bit overwhelming. I've had a hard time deciding what to shoot in the past. There are so many people, places, and buildings that it can be overwhelming.

My solution this time was to just strap my Ricoh GRD IV to my hand and take as many photos as I could - just shoot all the things! So I did. At the end of each day, I would go back and see what I had. I noticed early on that I was taking a lot of photos of the people of NYC. More specifically, these were people who I felt were real New Yorkers. So then I decided to keep that focus and that helped propel me through the rest of my trip.

Here are my favourites from my first encounter with one of the planet's greatest cities. I made sure to capture some of the architecture but the Folks I saw along the way were the focus.
